-Buddhism has many similar beliefs to Hinduism
-founded in India and made its way across Asia into Korea & China
-Religion founded by Siddahartha Gautama, who was also known as the Buddha.
-Holy text:
3 Baskets of Wisdom
-worshiped in shrines
-Sects.-
Theravada: who believe that Buddha is not a god rather than a spiritual guide
Mahayana: Believed that Buddha is in fact God
-Prince Siddhartha Gautama discovered the misery and poverty of his people
-He was upset by all the suffering they endured
-Siddhartha decided to meditate to find the answer to why people must suffer from pain and sorrow
-after 49 days of meditation, he found some answers
-he became the enlighten one, otherwise known as the Buddha
-Nobel Truths:
1. All living beings must endure some sort of suffering
2. Suffering, which is caused by desires for life leads to incarnations
3. The goal of existence is an escape from suffering & the endless cycle of reincarnation by means of nirvana.

Symbol of Buddhism:
the wheel represents
the teachings of the
Buddha. The Buddha
was the one who
"Turned the wheel of
Dharma."
-The eight spokes of the wheel symbolize the Nobel eightfold path set out by the Buddha in his teachings.
-The wheel also represents the endless cycle of rebirth, which can only be escaped by means of the Buddha's teachings
-Buddhists believe in meditation, which is a way of enlightenment
-Rejects the ideas of priests, formal rituals or existence in gods
-set up convents and monasteries
