An equation is a statement that the values of two mathematical expressions are equal (indicated by the sign =).

What is an equation?

Alex is making 2 hamburgers. For each hamburger, you need 1 tablespoon of ketchup, so for both hamburgers, you need 2 tablespoons of ketchup. The equation Alex used to solve that was 1+1=2.
