Succession is the process by which ecological communities change over time. There are two types of succession, primary and secondary.
Primary succession occurs in areas where organisms didn't previously live. Bare rock can be found where primary succession may occur.
Secondary succession occurs when an area has been disturbed by an outside force. When this occurs plants will repopulate the area that has been destroyed.
