King Duncan makes Macbeth the new Thane of Cawdor. The king says that it show's there's no way to tell someone's real character from their face. It's ironic because the king trusted the old Thane of Cawdor and he was a traitor, and he now he trusts Macbeth but he's planning to kill him.
