The Final Break

n July 1, 1776, the Second Continental Congress met in the Philadelphia State House. On July 2, 1776, 12 colonies voted for independence.

The delegates approved a final version of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Benjamin Franklin's quote about staying united was, "We must all hang together. Or most assuredly we shall all hang separately."
