Cause And Effect

Effect- The toad becomes everlasting, and Jesse is sad that Winnie did not drink from the spring and he has to move on.

Cause- Winnie does not drink from the spring, she instead pours the spring water onto the toad, making him immortal.

Cause- Winnie hears that toads take in water through their skin, they do not drink.

Effect- Winnie decides to pour the spring water onto the toad, making it immortal.

Cause- The old man remembers everything from when he was little, and gracefully answers all the cloaked man's questions.

Effect- The cloaked man (he represents death) leaves the old man to live, until next spring, when he will come again.
