Trade in the Aztec Empire

- The Aztecs controlled a huge trade network
- Most towns had a market in which local farmers and artisans brought their good to trade
- Luxury goods such as gems and rare foods where brought to sell at the markets
- Emperors use the merchants as spies whom reported trouble in the empire
- As the Aztecs grew richer, they grew even stronger and conquered more people
- 500s, they were the most powerful state in Mesoamerica
- Tenochtitlan was the capital, it was surrounded by water and connected to land by causeways made of rocks covered in dirt
- The Aztecs also built a stone aqueduct
