He established the NAACP throughout the boycotts of gasoline stations that refused to allow blacks to use their bathrooms. 1954 the supreme court ruled that segregated schools was unconstitutional. Evers applied to the university of Mississippi law school to integrate the school's oldest university.

In June 12 1963 he was returning home and was assassinated. The accused killer was a supremacist named Byron De La Beckwith.
