The Speaker of the House is a powerful position. The Speaker is both the presiding officer of the House of Representatives and the leader of the majority party. The Speaker is also second to the Vice-President of the United States in the line of succession to the Presidency.

House: Nancy Pelosi(D) & Eric Cantor(R)
The floor leader is charged with scheduling legislation, consulting with members to gauge sentiment on issues, urge colleagues to support or defeat measures on the floor, and, in general, works to advance the goals of the majority party. The floor leader is also responsible for closely watching floor activities.
