History

Dr. Adolph Frederick Erdman, in October 1905, gathered a group of physicians who were practicing anesthesia as a medical specialty in the area. They met at Long Island College Hospital (the first medical school in the country) and put together the "Long Island Society of Anesthetists" whose purpose was to promote the art and science of anesthesia.

Anesthesia is the loss of feeling or sensation. Whenever you are having surgery, anesthesiologists give you anesthesia in a gas form.
