McDonaldization

Control

Irrationality

Deskilling

An example of this could be workers on an assembly line that are hired and trained to perform a single highly rationalized task. Although this may be a very efficient method of operating a business, an irrationality that is spawned can be worker burnout.

Many companies use this to their advantage. Using unskilled workers, and therefore paying them lower wages. Pickers, like the woman in the second article are trained to work a specific task.

The scanners are a great example of a control. Instead of training a worker to know where to put everything, their scanner tells them instead. This tactic is known as trading human labor for non-human labor.
