The most common way to acquire citizenship is by birth.

Citizenship can also be acquired through naturalization.

Naturalization- Legal process by which persons born in other countries can apply for U.S. citizenship.

Citizenship- Having legal residency in a country by either birth or oath and the the rights and privileges therein.
