Asylum- A place of refuge or safety from imminent danger.

Applicants must claim to have been persecuted in their home country based on race, religion, nationality, etc.

The applicant will have an interview, where they are questioned on application. They will need an interpreter if cannot speak English.

If the officer rejects the request for asylum, the applicant will be placed in removal proceedings before an immigration judge. Asylum can also be used in trials involving deporting someone.
