Background Research

Our topic is the salinity of water and how it affects plant growth. One way how this affects the real world is that it can affect how crops grow. Therefore, salinity can affect how much money farmers make and the economy. We found out how salinity affects growth, why it does, and how all of that affects the human race through our research and tests.
In the article, “Growing Healthy Plants”, the topic of how there are many variables that affect plant growth is explained. Even inside of the subcategory of water, there are many variables, such as pH, heat, pollutants, and, of course, salinity.These all affect the plants in different ways, and can completely change how well they grow, determine whether they live or die, and how they grow. Salinity was not mentioned specifically, but is similar to some of the other variables, so we know that it will do the same.
