Structure
• Saclike structures that store materials such as water, salt, proteins, and carbohydrates.

Function
•"The pressure of the central vacuole in plant cells makes it possible for plants to support heavy structures."
• A contractile vacuole contracts rhythmically and pumps excess water out of the cell.
• Vacuoles are found in some single celled organisms and in some animals.
•In plants, there is one large central one.
•In animals, there are many smaller ones.
