Multicultural Aspects
Celie and the rest of the women in this novel are not treated with equailty. This story takes place in the 30's when the Jim Crows were still in effect and women didn't have any rights. They were used for sex and did most of the labor in their husbands homes and fields. It was the men that ruled the households, the women just cleaned up after them.
