1. Who built the structure? Mayans
2. Where is the structure located? Mexican state of Yucatan.
4. The structure’s significance to the ancient culture:
Why did the people build it? What did they do with it? It is about 30 minutes from Merida and the famous sea that supposedly was the site of impact of the meteorite that killed the dinosaurs.
5. The structure’s significance in astronomy:
What did the structure have to do with the stars, sun, calendar, etc.? On the vernal equinox, the sun rises so that it shines directly through one window of the temple and out the other.
