Machu Pichu Temple of the Sun

1. Who built the structure? The Incas built the estate around 1450, but abandoned it a century later at the time of the Spanish Conquest.
2. Where is the structure located? It is located in the Cusco Region, Urubamba Province, Machupicchu District in Peru
4. The structure’s significance to the ancient culture:
Why did the people build it? What did they do with it? Often mistakenly referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", it is perhaps the most familiar icon of Inca civilization.
5. The structure’s significance in astronomy:
What did the structure have to do with the stars, sun, calendar, etc.? According to anthropological researches, the exact location of the Citadel was chosen to place the city at the highest altitude and, thus, this location in turn get to contemplate heaven more closely.
