The Ear
The ear is the main organ that detects sound.
The ear allows us to hear, providing us with one of our 5 senses. Sound comes in through our earlobe into our ear canal. The sound wave then vibrate our eardrum. The eardrum then vibrates the ossicles which are 3 small bones called the anvil, the hammer and the stirrup. The sound wave then carries on to the semicircular canals which then vibrate the cochlea. Linked to the cochlea is the auditory nerve which sends the electrical signal to the brain.
Sometimes, the ear can be damaged by excessive vibration due to loud sound waves. Tiny nerves in the ear drum get torn and your hearing weakens.
