Caravaggio, the Rennaissance Man

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio is my name. I was born in Milan on Sept. 28, 1573. My first major painting called The Fortune Teller was painted in a new style for Roman artists because the style would pave way for changes in Roman art for years to come. For art, I had abandoned the rules that guided artists who idealized both human and religious experience and people say that I single handedly created the Baroque style. I painted many other works like the Life of St. Matthew for the church of San Luigi dei Francesi in the Contarelli Chapel and these works caused a public outcry due to the realistic and dramatic nature of them. These are just some of the contributions I mans to art and society before I died on July 18, 1610.
