Toward Independence

The Olive Branch Petition

Common Sense

The Olive Branch Petition was a letter sent to King George III to end the quarrel.

The king ordered the ministers to bring the traitors to justice.

The quote was "Looked with some degree of horror on the scheme of separation."

Thomas Paine published Common Sense In 1776 and it stated that "Of more worth is one honest man in society than all the crowned ruffians."

The petition persuaded many colonists to support independence
