Religion in America
Religious freedom has always been important in America. Beginning with the first Europeans to settle here, America became a place for those who wished to practice their own religion free from prosecution. The nineteenth century was full of new religions and revivals, such as the one seen in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. A product of American's willingness to follow their own beliefs in religion are the 900 or so Christian denominations in the United States. Over the century a variety of other religions have become more popular in America, although Christianity still leads at around 75% of adults identifying as Christian.
