African Americans in The Army.
Although African Americans were drafted into the armed forces they were still generally assigned to service branches rather than combat units.
One exception was the 99th Fighter Pursuit Squadron also known as the "Tuskegee Airmen," who after 1500 missions never lost a bomber to enemy fighters.
