The 13th Amendment
•The 13th Amendment abolished slavery and forbid involuntary servitude
•The Emancipation Proclamation helped form the 13th Amendment
•The amendment was passed on Jaunary 31, 1865 after Lincoln had died
•It was ratified in December 18, 1865
•Mississippi was the only state to not ratify the amendment until 1995
Amendment XIII
"1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
2. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation"
