-This is a painting by Max Beckmann.
-It is called "Das Leichenschauhaus" (The Morgue) and was painted in 1915.
-Max Beckmann was a German painter whom had volunteered as a medical orderly in World War I. From his traumatic experiences in World War I, he put his twisted emotions for himself and humanity towards his paintings.
-this painting depicts a scene of soldiers who have died in the war from their wounds. It also depicts people putting the bodies into coffins.
-The emotion it conveys is one of no compassion because these workers had no choice but to do their job without having time to be remorseful towards the soldiers.
- The significance of this painting is to depict the fact that people did not have time to have remorse for the dead because death was expected.
