This man was her first crush. He would come every summer to Gorky. They would lose contact after each summer when he went back to Kiev. They met back up again a few years later at a dance. From there their love blossomed. She was engaged to him by the time he went back to the military where he died being shot down flying an aid mission for the weakened Soviet resistance.
