Nature/Science Theme

The line of the arch on the bridges draws the viewers eye from one side of the picture to the other. In the water there is a zig-zag line that recedes under the bridge, which daws your attention there. Space is used for the positive space with the bridge, you can not see the beginning or end which gives the impression that it continues. The negative space has a lot of green, which you can assume are trees. Organic forms in the painting are the shrubs, trees, and the Lily's in the water.

3. Analysis

2. Interpretation:

Artist: Claude Monet

Title: The Japanese Footbridge

Date: 1899

Medium: Oil on canvas

Currently: The Nation Gallery of Art

Source: http://www.nga.gov/

1. Description:

There is a bridge in some type of swap area. The colors are more of a cool color tones with some pink and white on the flowers. It seems to be a clam day with not that much sun. There is no direct light source, but the picture is bright.

4. Judgment:

I think that since there is the zig- zag line, leading under the bridge, that the artist wanted to created a 3-D affect. The use of cool colors in the panting give me the impression of a happy and calm mood. The organic shapes of the shrubs near the bridge, give me the impression of the breeze blowing. The positive space is the blue bridge because it is the subject matter.

The use of cool colors and organic shapes drew my interest to the painting. The artist has created a interesting piece of work with relaxing feeling when you look at it. I think that this is a very developed piece of art.
