In 1864, Native Americans were raiding many wagon trains, so 300 federal troops were sent to stop these raids. Over 100 Native Americans were killed or wounded. The federal troops also destroyed their lodges, buffalo hides, and food for the winter. To stop all of the attacks from the Union and the Confederates at the same time, they signed a peace treaty.
