Political Factors

Groups of Tuareg would pay allegience to a locally appointed headman, who in turn would report to the noble who considered the village his domain.They were also given political status by colonial and postcolonial administrations. Today, because of natural disasters and political tensions, it is difficult to make a living only from nomadic herding and there are a few Tuareg who are teachers or businessmen.
