Because Tuareg women do not wear veils, unlike other Islamic societies, they must have more freedom and voice in their groups. Men do wear veils but women do not.

The Tuareg are mainly nomadic and therefore their traditions must overlap with their religion making them excused for some Islamic practices. Strict adherance to other religious requirements is rare.

Since the Tuareg belong to the Maliki Islam sect, their great prophet called El Maghili must be another version of the prophet Mohammad.
