TRIAL

Dahmer confessed to 17 murders in total, and to consuming the hearts, livers. biceps, and thighs of some of his victims. He said he had planned on displaying the skulls and skeletons of the bodies in his living room as an altar to himself, where he could meditate. The trial began on January 13, 1992. Dahmer had confessed to the murders during police investigation, and pleaded guilty by reason of insanity. Despite the defense's argument that Dahmer was insane due to his interest in necrophilia, the jury still found Jeffrey Dahmer guilty. Expert witness, forensic psychiatrist Park Dietz, testified that Dahmer did not appear to have any mental disease when he committed the murders. He diagnosed him with substance use disorder, paraphilia, and antisocial personality disorder. He was sentenced to 15 life terms, or 957 years in prison, where he was murdered by a fellow inmate.
