The most common signs and symptoms of cystitis are urgency (the need to void immediately) and frequency (the need to void often). Other common symptoms include itching, painful urination, and urine that is dark, cloudy, or blood tinged. Urine may also have a foul odor. Occasionally, if left untreated the patient may suffer from chills and fever. In chronic cystitis, dysuria (burning or painful urination) may be the only symptom.
