Shinto is based on belief in and worship of kami

Kami are the spirits and gods of Shinto

Can be forces of nature, spiritual beings, and qualities humans possess

Found in everything and everywhere

Contain harmonizing power called Mitsubi, and truthful will called Makoto

They are not only gods that created the universe, but spirits in living beings, beings themselves , forces of nature, elements of the landscape, and humans who became kami after their death
