About Jack Gilbert

Gilbert was born on February 18, 1925. He was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He went to Peabody High School. Then Gilbert became a door to door salesman. After that he was an exterminator and later a steelworker. He eventually graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. Gilbert and his friend, Gerald Stern, developed an interest in writing and poetry.
