The Scarlet letter is about Hester Prynne who has committed a crime of adultery. The result of her crime is that she as to wear a scarlet letter "A" that tells the town her crime. In an agreement with Pearl's (Hester's daughter) father and her own husband to never give away their identity, she suffers all of the shame herself. Hester's real husband, Roger Chillingworth comes back into town seeking revenge on Pearl's father, Reverend Arthur Dimmesdale. Chillingworth then begins to stalk the minister day and night.
Hester comes to realization that her husband is picking at Dimmesdale. Hester and Dimmesdale hitch a plan to move to England. At the last minute Dimmesdale back out and confesses his sin to the town. He is then publicly shamed 7 years later on the same scaffold Hester was publicly shamed on. Dimmesdale and Chillingworth both eventually die. Chillingworth leaves all his money to Pearl, giving her and her mom a chance to move back to England,
