What happened to Bormann

Near the end of World War II, Martin Bormann retreated to Hitler's bunker with Hitler and was there when Hitler committed suicide.

Martin and other important Nazis attempted to flee Berlin in early May to escape the Soviets approaching but did not succeed. Martin presumably killed himself by jumping off of a bridge close to Lehrter station, his body buried a few days later but not confirmed as genuine until 1972.

Even though he was already dead, Bormann was tried and found as a war criminal and sentenced to death by hanging.

Martin Bormann is remembered as one of Hitler's most trusted and valued henchmen and even considered the second most powerful in the Party. Bormann was Hitler's private secretary and was with him during many important decisions made by the Nazi Party.
