Both Albert and John are seem as average to dumb guys. They both find a way to become brilliant in their own way. Their new found knowledge makes them cocky and makes them believe they can do things they never would have thought of before. In a conversation with one of his machines, Albert says, "We'll gobble them up like goobers. How come I never saw it like that before? Six billion patsies!"(165). The six billion patsies is the population of the world at the time.
