Banned vs. Challenged

- If a piece of literature is banned, it is prohibited by the laws.

- Ex: "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" was banned in China because of the way animals and humans were treated equally.

- If a piece of literature is challenged, it is not prohibited by law, but it could be banned by a school or library.

- Ex: "To Kill a Mocking Bird" was a challenged book in the United States, but now is one of the state mandated books for 9th grade.
