History and Tradition
- The Yulin Dog festival occurs annually each year on the 21st of July to mark the summer solstice.
- It is located in Yulin, Guangxi, South East China.
- The festival was invented by Chinese meat traders back in 2010 to improve business.
- To cover this up the butchers told the locals that the festival was a cleansing festivity that would rid them of dark spirits and remove disease.
- In 2011 the Jinhua Hutou Dog Meat Festival, similar to the Yulin dog meat festival was banned due to the global devastation and disgust it had caused.
