Scientists first discovered Ebola in 1976 in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It was named The Ebola Virus after the Ebola River in which it was first found. It is believed to come from gorillas and chimpanzees. There was first an outbreak in Sudan in 1976 from June to November. There was a second outbreak also in 1976 in August in Zaire.
