What are happening to the Cheetahs?

The cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world and has been highly recognized as one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet. A century ago there was an estimated 100,000 cheetahs spread throughout Africa, Asia, South Africa, India, and Iran. Now, cheetahs are found only in Africa and a small portion of Iran, with an estimated population of only 9,000 to 12,000 currently living. The decline in population is due to decline in prey, loss of habitat, poaching, and high mortality of cheetah cubs. We must face the reality that the extinction of this marvelous creature is in the near future if a solution to the dwindling population cannot be found.
