Formation of the Marist Brothers - St. Marcellin founded the order in 1817 to combat the illiteracy and spiritual poverty in post-Revolutionary France. Marcellin believed God called him to help young people, especially those in need. He responded by forming a religious community of Brothers dedicated to educating youth and conveying the love of Jesus Christ through Mary.
Joining, leaving, and rejoining the seminary - with the money he earned from raising sheep, he joined the seminary. Although he was older than many of his classmates, he failed his first year and was sent home. During his second year, he applied in his studies, he then left for St. Irenaeus. He attended for his development of a priest.
