Checks and Balances

Checks and Balances- a system that allows each branch of government to veto or amend actions by another branch to keep that branch from using too much power.

Metaphor- Like how checks and balances limit the actions of another branch, the players on a football team keeps one player from becoming too dominant. If there is one dominant player on a football team the other team will realize it and will double team that person. Double-teaming a person will result in another player open and now that person is getting credit instead of the dominant player.
