Symbol

An apple is a symbol in The Giver because it represents life. When Jones sees colors for the first time he sees the color red. The color red represents anger. When Jones sees this color it's the first time he realizes he is different. The Receiver of Memory learns all the emotions and everything that has happens in the world. This makes him special because only he has these experiences.
