Like in my 2 explanation it was used first on Albert Alexander. But in the1900's penicillin was most used because of all the wars and illnesses going around. Then it slowly progressed up to the 21st century. Penicillin is used all around the world for many different reasons. 

Mostly for infections or other dangerous diseases.
