Ten years later a Australian Oxford student Howard Florey came across some of Alexander's old documents and saw penicillin. So he decided to do some experiments. In 1941 one of the first people to be diagnosed with penicillin was Albert Alexander. Alexander's nose was had been cut and the infection from it spread. They gave him penicillin for four days. Within 24 hours he began to heal. But before a complete recovery he died. But the results were good enough to encourage doctors to continue testing the drug.
