Children with Trisomy 18 need support to walk, or they are put in wheelchairs. Their learning is very limited. Most of these children cannot talk, even when they live to a year, but they can learn to recognize and interact with others.

Treatments:

1: The child can get surgery to help make him/her more comfortable, but major surgeries aren't performed

2: Children who live long enough can get special education and medical therapy

-Medical therapy is also just to make the child more comfortable rather than to prolong the life of the child

Detection:

Detection can happen before birth (karyotype or ultrasound), or after birth by a physical examination.
