"I did a strip that had a guy kneeling at the altar taking Communion and saying can I have fries with that? And to my 11-year-old brain that was comedy."

Seth Macfarlane grew up in a Catholic household but quickly showed signs of being an atheist. At the age of 11 he created a comic strip that poked fun at some Catholic practices. The many years of practicing the religion pushed Macfarlane to resist the belief since he was not allowed to think against the idea of "God". He thinks that many theists are closed minded to the possibilities of science.
"I'm not a fatalist. I'm not a religious person. I'm sure there are close calls that we're not even aware of hundreds of times a year"
On the day of September 11, 2001 Macfarlane was scheduled to fly on the American Airlines flight 11 from Boston to Los Angeles but missed the flight due to a schedule mistake. While many people would credit God for the delay, Macfarlane believes that coincidence played a key part in his survival.
