Sugar Alcohols
“Sugar alcohols are a type of carbohydrates called "polyols". Part of their chemical structure resembles sugar, and part of it resembles alcohol -- hence the confusing name. Examples of common sugar alcohols are maltitol, sorbitol, isomalt, and xylitol.”

A Sugar alcohol is a type of alcohol created from sugar. They are organic compounds, and classified as polyols. They look like normal sugar, and are water soluble. Sugar alcohols are used widely in the food industry as either sweeteners or thickeners. They are also commonly used in the place of table sugar, in combination with high intensity artificial sugars to counter the low sweetness of Sugar alcohols.
