New Religious Order:
Dominicans
Monastic order. One of the most important religious orders in the late Middle Ages. Their goal was to renew the christian faith by preaching and living a lifestyle like that of the original Apostles. The dominican constitution was a combination of faith and study. Saint Dominic petitioned to the pope to be allowed to form a new religious order with the purpose of preaching christianity. The order’s growth was rapid, reason for the rapid growth: between devotion of faith and interest in education. The main mission was to spread the gospel to heretics, but he realized force was not the best way, they had to be patient and preach the gospel. One of the first religious orders to appreciate women. Dominicans were called to do other duties for the Catholic Church. The first inquisition ran by the pope was overseen by Dominicans, since they were usually the most useful men available.
